Vendor Connect is built on a traditional client/server model, a MS VB6 and MS SQL Server development based on the Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) and the n tier architecture. The product is positioned as a corporate, extensible, and scaleable solution. The available clients are a Win32 client (Window 95/98/NT/XP/2000), Portable Data Terminals (PDTs) batch client, and Radio Frequency (RF) PDTs. Vendor Connect is supported by the complete range of Paxar printers and the various tethered scanners on range, plus Portable Data Terminals (PDTs) for remote picking and scanning.

Additionally, Vendor Connect includes an optional Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) module. The user models the retailer's store inventory in Vendor connect. A Reverse Purchase Order (RPO) is generated from an analysis of the model inventory and electronic sales and inventory data received from the retailer.

Vendor Connect also includes Ratio Pack functionality. Like a Trade Unit, a Ratio Pack may contain a collection of retail items, same style and same colour, but a predefined ratio of sizes. Typically footwear suppliers (and others) manufacture and package to these predefined rules. The buyer will also raise a purchase order consistent with these rules. This allows Vendor Connect to greatly simplify the scanning and SCM labelling required in the supplier's warehouse.
